The painting is a large one by my standards, about five feet square. The composition is what forces the viewer into dealing with my vision. That is to say, my aesthetic vision makes my intellectual vision work. By means of aesthetics I create a believable world, however absurd the situation may appear on the surface. I see art as a layering, a building-up process. Under a single layer of paint, there are many other layers and meanings. When I paint, I build up, layer upon layer. Among those layers are humor and sadness. Isn’t art about both?"
