Robert Cenedella's lithograph, We All Live in Harrisburg (1979), is in response to the Three Mile Island accident that happened outside of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on March 28th, 1979. A nuclear power plant located on the Susquehanna River had experienced a partial meltdown that released radioactive substances into the air. An estimated population of 650,000 was affected, and more than half of them had fled the area for close to a month fearing health effects from breathing in dangerous toxins.
Cenedella uses the famous Andrew Wyeth painting from 1948 named Christina's World as his backdrop to represent how nuclear power plants are in our own backyards.
